NGOs of my country

Non Governmental Organisations…
As the name implies NON GOVERNMENTAL! If it is needed to be paraphrased; voluntaries come together only for the purpose of public welfare without any political, commercial purposes, , willing to serve with amateur spirit! Mentioned society, which work for its own benefit could be of a certain occupational group, women who cannot use their rights properly, children, disabled citizens or relatives of martries or veterans, citizens of a certain city, and countless many like Canary Lovers Association…
I remember many Associations, Foundations, Confederations that I have been in the establishment of, how we started with an amateur spirit and excitement , our self- sacrificed efforts continued days and nights..As a result of each person’s being a different world, being a different culture, being a treasure came out wonderful ideas and the efforts were made to realize those great ideas..At first times, everybody was zealot, generous, self sacrificed… And then…

As you all know then, dear readers.. I’m sure most of you have had such experiences. When a NGO is formed and organized enough to be known by the society, and when it is started to be respected and show its presence, unfortunately the amateur spirit at the beginning leaves its place to the Professional spirit. This time power struggles that we are used to, personality conflict, unsatisfied egos, the violest personalities, selfishness occur so much that the amateur spirit at the beginning either leaves the ship silently or as on behalf of the efforts it prefers to stay and struggle. Unfortunately, the NGO is doomed to lose in either case. Because during these fights NGO loses its essence and even forgets its own purpose struggling with details.
So, what should be done to obtain NGOs ,that are considered important by today’s world , with the same excitement and spirit at the beginning?
First of all, I think that the financial problem or the issue of finding a place should be solved and they should be prevented to be the backyard of a certain businessmen or a political party . Our ancestors were right to state that ‘who pays the piper, calls the tune’.. So NGOs should be independent and impartial so that they can be the voice of causes and troubles of the group they are representative of, without hesitation.
Also as it is in Europe, they should be made effective, and given the reputation they deserve. For in our country, unfortunately, chairmen and members of NGOs are desperate to reach a lot of positions and authorities because of being totally non-governmental organisations. When we consider the principle of, if there is no authority one cannot talk about action there’ many people who regards NGOs as a step unfortunately moves into a political parties in the name of serving and lose the precious value he used to have while struggling.. I, personally think at this point where I am about to complete my 20 year serving as a private attorney in the Capital, there have been many idealistic presidents of Bar Associations who have been started their path to find solutions to their colleagues’ problems then find themselves either as a mayor or a parliamentarian at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey have forgotten the his colleagues and their problems at the legal arena.
In my humble opinion, if wherewithal of NGOs are supported, their views of the country’s administration are respected, our nation will benefit of this completely voluntary amateur spirit, and with hand in hand, heart to heart we will advance to the year 2023(2013?) with stable, strong steps. With all my respects…
