Latin Amerika seyahati dönüşü uçakta konuşan Cumhurbaşkanı Erdoğan, ABD Başkanı Barack Obama ile ilgili itirafta bulundu.
Returning one day earlier than planned from his Latin America visit covering Colombia, Cuba and Mexico, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke with the journalists at the presidential airplane.
Speaking about his relations with the US President Barack Obama, Erdoğan said “We were in very good terms with Obama when he was first elected. You know they also welcomed us at the White House as a family. We held one to one meetings. After all this I saw the issue diverting into another way, which I did not understand”.
Erdoğan briefly said:
“WHAT IS MADE WITH ARMS IS NOT REVOLUTION”
They say “two revolutionists talked” in Cuba…
However I say; the important one is the revolution of the people, not the armed revolution. People make revolution at the ballot boxes and fell happy for that. What is made with arms is not revolution. This was what I said, not Raul Castro.
“WE WERE AT VERY GOOD TERMS WITH OBAMA AT HIS FIRST TERM…”
You are known with your ‘One minute’ in Cuba. How they see your stance in these countries?
We discussed these issues with Mr. Nyeto (Mexican President). When I told him “world is bigger than 5” he said he approves this. Eighty percent of Mexico’s exports is made to the US, and it was the US who supported Nyeto’s presidency. I was also in very good terms with Obama when he was first elected. You know they also welcomed us at the White House as a family. We held one to one meetings. After all this I saw the issue diverting into another way, which I did not understand. When we said “one minute” we meant “no one but Allah can draw our route”. If the route is right we follow it, otherwise no one can force us to follow this route. It is clear who we have addressed when saying “one minute”. This person (former Israeli president Shimon Peres) made me an offer before taking the presidential position; “we will restructure the West Bank; we will provide finance and you are good at construction”. We approved this offer and told him “you find the funds and we will construct via TOKİ”. Then he became the president after a short while but he started acting differently after this position. When I asked him about the West Bank issue, he replied me “you see I am busy with the affairs of Israel”.
REASON FOR THE CALL TO OBAMA
What was the reason for you call to Obama? Some considered this as a harsh statement. Did you make it upon some information you have received?
I was aware of the incident. It is up to you to decide whether it was a harsh statement or not. If there is an incident my addressee is the president of that country. Then I addressed the vice president. If this incident had taken place in my country I would not have remained silent. There are samples. For instance when the US embassy was attacked we made all the necessary statement. We shared all the findings regarding the DHKP-C and developments with the US. This is required by being a strategic ally. We expect the same from them. One more thing; the Ukraine issue. I discussed it a few times with president Putin. You know 5-6 thousand people died there. They are talking negotiating and keep talking about Ukraine. 350 thousand people died in Syria, are we not going to talk about it? They still think to continue with the Assad regime. We expect the same sensitivity for Syria, which they now show for Ukraine. We expect it also for Egypt. You know that a coup took place there and they supported the perpetrators of the coup in Egypt. There are very complex relations. When we talk about these we remain lonely but not by the people. Our attempts find a respond among the people.
“THIS IS NOTHING BUT JEALOUSY”
There are claims that issues like ‘One minute’ have isolated you in the world. What do you think?
I do not care about loneliness. What is important for us is the view of the people. We see at the presidential elections that the people have not isolated us but in contrast they have embraced us. We are not isolated among the people of the world. Maybe this is true among the leaders but this is nothing but jealousy.
There are news that soon there will be a call to lay down arms for the reconciliation process.
In fact I was expecting this statement on Friday but it did not happen. Such a statement might come in a day or two. As you know the implementation is more important. They made this statement last year at the Newruz feast but they did not implement it. You know we had opened the Habur border for peace and brotherhood but they turned it to show for their benefit. They have to show us the implementation; the whole country needs this brotherhood and unity. If we achieve, this will have impacts on the whole country and 78 million people. We say why should we stay at 11,000 US Dollars for GDP? We should increase it to 25,000 USD.
